SXM Kitesurfing Challenge May 2006
The SXM challenge is a windsurf and kitesurf competition which take place on Orient Beach. Organised since 2001, it has now become a traditional kitesurf and windsurf event of the Caribbean. The level and the reputation of the competition increase each year since its creation and we now have Professional Racers coming from France, Argentina and even Hawaii.
It is organised since the beginning by the Winds Adventures at Orient Bay Saint Martin.
For the 2006 edition, we plan to hold the SXM Challenge just after the « Calema Midwinters », an international windsurf competition occuring in Miami. This event gather more than 200 international racers and, yet, is not offering any price money. Thus we imagine take advantage of the proximity of Miami to seduce the windsurfers into pushing their race schedule to Saint Martin and compete for the 1 500 € at stake. Thus, the Challenge will be integrated to the best windsurfers’ schedule.
History et presentation of SXM Kitesurfing Challenge
The event takes place for the fourth consecutive year, and gathers the best of the Caribbean in kitesurf and windsurf. This year, the 5 stars SXM challenge opens a category beach catamaran.
Since its first edition, the « 5 Stars SXM Challenge » kept improving its development, trying to seduce more and more riders from the Caribbean to come and compete in beautiful spot of Orient Bay.
The quality of the organisation and the level of the local and Caribbean racers convinced the best riders worldwide to come in Saint Martin from France, Argentina or Hawaii, like Antoine ALBEAU, Thierry BELBEOC’H or André PHILIP.

The « 5 Stars SXM Challenge » is basically :
- A traditional nautical event of the Caribbean
- The « Bouygues Telecom Caraïbe King of the Bay », kitesurf freestyle contest
- A high level competition
- A time race around Saint Martin for the windsurfers and the catamarans
- A 3 days show open to everyone
- Parties, activities and dinner in each of the 5 Stars
- A display for Saint Martin on the international stage of sailing sports
- 3000 € of price money
- More than 4000 € of gifts
