susi mai meets tpk in cabarete. Since I started kitesurfing, Cabrinha has been a big part of my riding adventure.
And by saying Cabrinha, I don't just mean the equipment itself (which is amazing anyway!) but I also talk about the people behind.
The team.
And as part of the team Susi was always on the most popular photos and images of Cabrinha. I thought to myself: I gotta meet this girl and spend at least a day to understand - what is she doing beside taking those stunning kitesurfing photos?? She got me curious...
And so it happened.
Me and Thierry arrived to Cabarete during the last quoter of December 2009, to spend 10 days on the Island.
We met Susi almost at the beginning of our great trip.
Susi is a sweet sweet girl, 25 years old who lives, breath and talks about kitesurfing for the past 5 years of her life.
She is the main Cabrinha chick, as everyone knows and she travels with all the Cabrinha team all around the world, shooting her kitesurfing movements at different amazing spots and beaches.
Susi Mai meets TPK in Cabarete? How did she get there...?
Susi is originally from Germany, but moved to the DR with her family when she was 5 years old.
She grew up on that Island and since she is sponsored by Cabrinha, Red Bull and Animal - she already had been in a lot of countries and got to ride in many many spots around the world.
For those who wondered - mo, Susi is not available...
By her side she has Tom Court, a young great rider too from England.
We were honored to meet her lovely family also!
We met Susi's parents, Guenter and Erica Mai (her dad's nickname is Plinsi and my mom's is Sissy) Guenter shapes the most beautiful and valuable water riding boards. He designs them and customs them. We visited his mini-factory at his house, a lovely inspiring peaceful spot for working. You can see the full article about Guenter here.
We also enjoyed a lovely dinner at Susi's uncles restaurant calls "Ali's Camp Surf", where they serve the best steak, potatoes and fish at the Dominican Republic.
Susi took us to an Island tour in her car and showed us to her favorite surfing spot - Playa Preciosa and other beautiful spots on the Island for surfing and kitesurfing.

At night, she took us to party at the Kite Beach bars and clubs and we all had a blast together. We spent the new years eve together (my birthday also!!) and had a great kite session with her and with Cameron Dietrich on the 1st day of 2010 at kite beach. It was a real fun!!!
We had a blast on that trip and we are looking forward to meet Susi again, if not in Cabarete than somewhere else in the world (-;
