Miami IKO Center provides the Challenge of becoming
a kite instructor level one.
The Center is located at Key Biscane, on south Florida. Beautiful beach break, very good conditions for kitesurfing.
I went there during October to get the solid training program with Chris from MKB Miami Kiteboarding.
I came to the court without knowing for sure what I should expect. On the first day I met a bunch of great kitesurfers that took the challenge with me under Chris Ribot's instruction.
What is IKO ?
The IKO means, Internatonal Kite Organizaion. It's purpose is develop and promote the safe practice of kiteboarding or kitesurfing, in relationship with national organizations and the industry. The IKO was created by Eric Beaudonat in 2001. IKO affiliate and trained instructors and examiners with a high quality level of teaching recognized all over the world. Now, it’s 130 affiliated kiteboarding centers in 38 countries, more than 3,000 instructors and 40,000 kiteboards certfied.
My Training was 5 intensive days...
7 to 10 hours per day. First I would say, this training is too short, I could easily add 2/3 days to this training. Why? Massive information in 5 days it's not easy...Also there is always more place for actually action with a real live student. These 5 days were vey intense. I got tons of very interesting information, I read a lot of books and paperworks about the subject.
For me, to become an instructor without any background of teaching was very difficult and a big challenge, plus the language barrier (with my French eccent), you can imagine...
Eventhough, it was a great experience. and
I would recommend to everybody to have the Miami IKO Center courses.
During these 5 days, we studied all the topics around Kiteboading/kitesurfing: equipment, safety, practice, kite flight theory, meteorology, basic oceanology, basic teaching psychology, IKO training program, IKO complete lesson plan and live teaching situation.
After this training, we got an International Diploma that ill allow to teach all over the world (except in France), because we are independent instructor we become an IKO Affiliated Point, be able to certified student or riders with Kiteboarder Card.
A solid training program
I learn a lot during these days at the Miami IKO Center, I met a lot passionate people from all over the world and I have a special thought and thanks for Chris.
This French guy from Brittany, unique place in West coats of France, gave so much energy, passion, patience also, he is the best ambassador for our sport and for that I would recommend to all riders to get his IKO Level 01 to protect our passion and our spots.
Feel free to visit the Miami IKO Center and his school in Key Biscayne (Florida), beautiful and safe spot, nice group and great team to work with.
