Kincardine Ontario Canada
(November 2009 by Andrei)
Kincardine Ontario Canada is a small town on the western coast of Lake Huron, the second largest great lake and the third largest fresh water source in the world. There is a thriving tourist industry, emphasizing sandy beaches, beautiful sunsets and Scottish cultural tradition. Kincardine is only home to 6500 people who live year round. This is also one of the best spots in all of Canada to kite.

Located halfway up Lake Huron western shore line to the north, Kincardine receives a variety of great wind conditions. The best chance of catching these great conditions are in the spring and late summer and fall months. The majority of the time the best winds are side-on shore winds from the south or north, north winds providing the best chance for waist to head high waves.
Wind ranges from 0-50 knots in the late fall and early winter expecially if a Gale blows through. Best days to ride are side on NE wind in about 30 knots as this is your best chance for a sick session.
Kincardine Ontario Canada: clear aqua bleu water
Being a great lake, the water is fresh, cold and clear aqua blue when the sun is shining. In my opinion, the western coast of lake huron its the closest water source that resembles the color of the caribbean water where I learned this wonderful sport of kite surfing.
Make sure to bring a wetsuit however, as the temperature can be as low as freezing, as the edges of the lake do freeze over in the harsh canadian winter conditions. As you can see the by photos I am wearing a dry suit!
This particular day, I was at home working enjoying the first sunshine I had seen in more then a week. Since all the leaves had fallen, it was difficult to judge how hard the wind was blowing. Luckily I had made friends with my neighbor, a veteran local kite surfer. He knew the wind was blowing and this might be the final session for the year.
He called me, told me it was blowing 20 knots at Station Beach (the local spot) from the north,
and we should go hit it. Luckily my boss is a sick kite surfer, and totally understands the need to get out and rip whenever the conditions were right. I agreed and met him next door for the coldest session of my life!
Kincardine Ontario Canada: 2 hours of riding
What a day, the sun was shining, the wind was blowing and we were able ride for about 2 hours before the wind decided to drop and my hands went completely numb and purple.
As you can see by the photos and the smile on my face, I was pretty stoked to be out in December ripping it up in Canada.
If you ever get a chance to to visit this area, make sure you bring your kite and a board because you dont want to be left on the beach watching guys rip it up in this unique Canadian kite surfing spot!
