I arrived in France last week from Venezuela and this was a hell of a flight.
We actually flew the day after the Air France plane crashed in the Atlantique, so we weren't very confident on taking the plane this next day.
We arrived at the Porlamar airport in Margarita where Customs had to check all our luggages like they always do there, and when you have 2 boardbags and a lot more bags, it can take some time ...
Once in the check in room, the pilot of the plane came in to announce that the pilot bringing the plane thought there was a problem with the fuel filter, they were going to do some "test" during an hour or 2 and if everything would be ok we could leave.
After 1h30min, he came back anouncing that they didn't find any problems with the plane, $$**!!//??, we would still leave but would take a different route for security reasons. In fact, instead of being 3hours 30min away from the nearest airport we would have to be 1h30 min from any airport in case of problems ! Unfortunatly the flight would be 12h30min long instead of the 8 hours originaly planed.
So we took off and followed the Caribbean islands, US and Canada coast line to go up North and cross on a smaller portion instead of crossing directly the Atlantique.
This rerouting wasn't the problem, better they keep it safe, but it was kind of stressful for everybody in the plane though it was working perfectly and we arrived safe. But each time the plane was shaking a little we could hear all the seat belt clicking and closing in a seconde in the same time and feel an overall tension amoung the passengers ....
So the flight got delayed and we missed connections but could make it home safe ;)
I stayed all last week in the south of France close to Nice where I went checking out the crazy kite spot in Cannes surounded by building and busy beaches .... but it's a fun place to kite with strong wind.
The next day we went with Linn and my uncle in Italy , at San Remo to surf and stand up paddle surf some nice 1m waves created by the good wind.
We actually woke up at 5am to drive one hour and be on the spot before the wind starts. Unfortunatly, with the jetlag we didn't sleep at all and had a nice siesta the same day after surfing.
I am now in a plane on my way to Norway, Stavanger, in the south east of this beautiful country. I will be there with Linn visiting her family and maybe try out some surfing on the coast if the condition and temperature aren't to bad but also party a little, those Norwegian know how to deal with that !
I will be back in a week in France to hopefully go kite around and participate some cool event for a couple weeks and then head down south with Linn to Tarifa in Spain for the Crew meeting Ocean Rodeo and try out the 2010 gear !!!
