Caribbean Kite Surfing St Martin
(November 2009)
Caribbean Kite Surfing St Martin has always been my most favorite area for riding in the world.
Since I left France in 2002 for the Islands, I love to come back to this small place on earth, where I feel home...
So this year was all about traveling for me, and it’s not finished yet (Hawaii, Antigua, Canada, Cap Hatteras and more are coming) and the top as always - Saint Martin.
I decide to take 10 days to St Martin and I stayed at this piece of heaven: Case A Rum.
Case A Rum has an impressive views on one of most beautiful lagoons of the Caribbean. Located on the north side of the island, Perfect view of "Pinel" and "Small key", and right on the edge of the water!
This case is close to Grand Case, authenticates village of fishermen, it's traditional milk but also its French restaurants which make the gastronomical capital of the Caribbean.
Each lodging comprises 2 air-conditioned rooms, a water room with West-Indian shower, separated WC, case with television, brewer of air, entirely equipped for in house cooking. Large terrace, with table, long chairs...
This terrace has a garden on the side of it and a wonderful swimming pool, the whole property bordered by coconuts and tropical flowers...
A large barbecue and a beautiful drink table will allow you to organize evening grills at the edge of the swimming pool.

Caribbean Kite Surfing St Martin: Riding the Galion
The first week end was windy-generous and I got to ride at the Galion beach. I enjoyed my new F-one Fish 5’2’ and the Cabrinha Nomad 13.
A magic day, 3 hours of kiting, riding perfect small waves with some local surfers...
Jumping over them, enjoying this color and pretty good wind (15/18 knots). I had a blast with this 2010 Fish 5’2 from Raphael Salles, the bamboo gave a sweet feeling during the riding, very smooth.
The carving is amazing with 3 large fins. I was surfing like never I did before, it’s the perfect weapon for Caribbean waves.
Regarding the New Cabrinha Nomad. The Nomad creates the type of kite turns that increase in power throughout the turning arc by pivoting off of the wing tip. This makes for powered kite loops..
It’s insane, each time I was turning even during my regular jump, I pull my bar and this Nomad was turning so fast to make a beautiful kite loop in the sky... What a feeling ;-)
Caribbean Kite Surfing St Martin: Nice sensation on the bar for both of these set ups and for the back lines.
David gave me this tip: “For the Nomad I pretty much fly the kite in light winds on the top knot on the rear line (closest to the kite) and then the middle for pretty much everything else unless it's nuking when I move it to the bottom.”
The construction is like Cabrinha’s kite, very strong and super clean profile. There are only 6 struts, no more in the middle, make this kite not for beginners because the launching can be tricky...
