Cabarete dominican republic kitesurfing. Cabarete has always been an interesting topic in our website, such as - kiteschools in Cabarete, description of the spot, women kiteboarding event in Cabarete, kitesurfing girls from Cabarete and more...
So one day, we packed our equipment and took a plane, in order to check out this place ourselves.
Cabarete dominican republic kitesurfing: Trip in December
We arrived to Dominican Republic on mid December 09. While most of the world were freezing from the cold weather, we took off our coats and sweatshirts for the sunny hot Caribbean weather.
We missed it so much! As you know (or you don't) we used to live at the Caribbean Islands (Anguilla and Saint Martin), so we just LOVE the Caribbean spirit and weather.
Cabarete matches with kiteboarding perfectly. This small Caribbean town has the reputation of having the most fantastic kitesurfing conditions in the world. Accordingly, some of the greatest in this sport have chosen Cabarete as their regular training camp to practice the sport all year round. For example, we met Cameron Dietrich, Susi Mai, Audrey Mayer, Laurel Eastman and others.
Cabarete was host of the largest Kiteboarding event in the World, every 3rd week of June. Most of the worlds best riders are coming every year to Cabarete to compete in perfect conditions and have best the time riding.
December is known for the wind in Cabarete, but unfortunetaly for us, there was no wind during our staying...
Cabarete dominican republic kitesurfing: Except for one magic day...
We woke up in the morning, rushing to the window to see if the trees are moving and if there is any wave out there - and there was!!!
The wind was blowing...
It was the first day of 2010. We met on the beach Susi Mai, Cameron Dietrich, Laurel Eastman and other friends and riders and went to our great first ride for the new year.
We stayed at the Ocean Dream Cabarete Residence - an amazing Beachfront vacation rental in the center of Cabarete, perfect for any rider to stay at. We got a huge apartment for an amazing price.
The mornings started with a breakfast at one of the 'Bozo Beach' bars and restaurants, while watching the people relaxing on the beach and the locals selling their hand made products to anyone who seems like a tourist..
Cabarete dominican republic kitesurfing: Kite Pro Spots
'Bozo Beach' is located between Cabarete and Kitebeach and it is the place where the big Kiteboarding World Championship (2001), World Cup (2002), and World Cup (2003) took place.
At nights, there are great places to hang on that beach, good music and weekend wild parties.
We also had great surfing sessions at Encuentro Beach, which is a very popular surfers beach. Usually the mornings have the best waves for surfers and is still a great place for wave riding in the afternoon when the winds pick up.

Getting there
To get to Kitebeach from central Cabarete, you can either stroll along the beach to reach it just around the corner past Bozo Beach and Punta Goleta (approximately 20 minutes walk) or take one of the Motorcycle-Taxis (locally called moto-conchos, the charge is 10 Pesos). You'll see the kites in the sky by then anyway. To get to the other places to kitesurf you are best off asking the locals once you are here in Cabarete.
So... Is it as fun as they say it is?
Yes. There are so many things to do in Cabarete and the most important - when it's windy, it's a blast!
